Me and Hero |
Hello all, figured that it was time to talk bout something else other than my love life haha :)
Recently, there's a lot of things going on as far as job and getting hired and staying on the job. What makes me mad is that Obama talks bout helping other people with jobs and stuff but he didn't point out that there are disabled people who are looking for a job as well. There is a reason that the ADA law is for. It wasn't drafted for fun, it was drafted and made into a law, which sadly there's not a lot of employers who would just follow what the simple rules that the ADA provides to help make a worker's job a lot easier.
What does that have to do with me? ok lets go into details here:
From my experiences, employers are doing what i call "silent discrimination". Ive added my email and phone numbers on scores of applications along with a little note on the side stating why i cannot do phone calls. I am hard of hearing and that's the correct way of putting it. I would fill out applications, wait like a week then i go up in person to try to set up an interview and check on the application status.
More than often i get told that they didnt get it or they would get back with me. Like in this instance, i waited like 5 months before i got let known that an employer wanted to see me for an interview and was told that i would be hearing from them in a couple days. Well 2 weeks went by and i found out through a worker that works there that they already got the position filled and not even bother to tell me. Wow, talk bout a downer. All that waiting for nothing?? I live in a town in North Texas for 6 years and ive applied and applied everywhere and i get the same road block!
Its not fair really. I can communicate without having to use sign language, i am a very good lip-reader and i been told that it could be used to help aid FBI or CIA if that was the case and i only sign when needed and i talk so well that people do not have a hard time understanding me. I cannot hear well over the phone so all i can do is to email or text and THANK GOD for unlimited data and text messages haha :)
I've applied like 30 times to Walmart and what do i get? a result on the end of this survey thing that they had saying "We appreciate your time but your opinion isn't valued" WHAT THE HELL?? i aint gonna lie on an application and i was honest throughout the whole thing and didn't it say somewhere near the end where you are about to sign your name that states "I hereby verify that what ive said is true and accurate to the best of my knowledge"??
Really, this has to change. I am a single mom who is struggling to get by in this life and not having to depend totally on welfare and to be able to provide what my son needs. Ive written to Obama but now its a wasted effort.....Something has to change...I do hope that things get resolved soon because i do not know how much longer i can live like this.
